Birds and Bins - Chatham County Wetlands Bird walk & clean-up

ORK (Ogeechee Riverkeepers), The Ford Field & River Club, and OAS (Ogeechee Audubon) are joining forces to provide a bird walk and litter cleanup and one of our favorite birding locations, Chatham County Wetlands!

This beautiful site offers a mix of habitats, featuring wetlands and river setting. Ogeechee Audubon & Ogeechee Riverkeeper co-leaders will help locate and identify birds, educate us about the southern part of the Ogeechee watershed while we cleanup the waterways.

We will search for wading birds, raptors, woodpeckers and more! Please bring your binoculars if you have them. Litter collection supplies will be provided. A limited amount of loaner binoculars will be available.

Meet at the cul-de-sac of the Al Bungard Conservation Area at 9AM. Use driving directions from HWY 17.

Trip Rigor: Easy, with paved path and varied terrain. Estimated walking distance 2 miles. ADA accessible; no public restrooms on site.

Registration is individual and will be handled by Ogeechee Riverkeepers. Each person in your party must register separately. If you are interested, register here. Please direct questions to ogeecheeaudubon.help@gmail.com.

Birds and Bins - S & S Greenway Bird walk & clean-up

Join Ogeechee Riverkeeper, Ogeechee Audubon, and Georgia Southern University Alternative Break for a birding walk and litter cleanup on the S & S Greenway Trail in Statesboro. (00 Gentilly Rd, Statesboro , GA 30458. )

The site offers a mix of habitats, featuring wetlands and a tributary of Little Lotts Creek. We will search for wading birds, raptors, woodpeckers and other fall resident birds while also picking up trash. Loaner binoculars and litter collection supplies will be available.

Jaycee Park Bird Walk

Note: Change in venue due to previous location still closed for repairs.

This month we will explore Jaycee Park on Tybee Island. It is located at the intersection of Campbell Road and Van Horn at the north end of the island. The park has a walking path that is black-topped and wide enough for wheel chairs. You will need to pay for parking.

Trip rigor: Easy, trail surface is black-top.

Second Thursday Bird Walk - Whitmarsh Island Preserve

Whitmarsh Island Preserve – This site contains some of the last remaining old growth maritime forest on the islands. Tidal creeks and fresh water creeks meander through the area. Explore the upper canopy to find winter residents. You may also spot a deer or other wildlife on this early morning walk.

Trip Rigor: Easy, terrain is gravel, grass, and/or dirt.

Second Thursday Bird Walk - Joseph J. Tribble Park

Joseph J. Tribble Park. This park is known as a secret park in Savannah and a good site for birding. Fox and deer are occasionally seen here. The is a small lake with an island in the middle. This 51 acre park is surrounded by a nice wooded area as a buffer to nearby roads. We will walk around a trail surrounding the lake. Meet at the parking area.

Second Thursday of the Month Bird Walk

University of Georgia Aquarium, Jay Wolf Nature trail on Skidaway Island. The Jay Wolf nature trail is adjacent to the Skidaway River in a maritime forest habitat with beautiful views of the salt marsh. The 0.3 mile trail includes a boardwalk over the salt marsh. Meet at Aquarium entrance.

Trip Rigor: Easy, gravel trail is wheelchair accessible
